Event Details
Are you a social entrepreneur or do you run a voluntary group or charity?
Would you like a dedicated team to help with turning your idea(s) into reality?
UnLtdWorld has teamed up with Future Foundations to work on a new programme which will bring social entrepreneurs, sixth formers and university students together to make a social impact.
If you have a great idea and vision, we have young people who really want to work with you.
They will be trained in how a social project works, how to set one up and what it takes.
We will be matching the skills and interests of the pupils with the needs of you and your project.
How will this work?
- As a social entrepreneur, you identify possible ways in which the young people can help you.
- You register on this page. Simply click on 'register now' at the top by the 29th October at, and if possible by the 24th October (we will be starting to pair teams with social entrepreneurs from this day).
- FF will get in touch to discuss your idea and help you turn it into a real project which will benefit both you and the young people helping you
- FF will attempt to match your project with the skills of the different teams
- Attend the official launch of the programme on the 24th October at NESTA (please note this is an optional event, however will be a great opportunity to meet our team, further develop your project and potentially find a group to help you...all in one afternoon!)
- You will be involved in choosing which team you would like to do your project either on the 24th or afterwards
- The sixth form pupils start work on the project (with input and support from university student mentors)
Projects should:
- Have SMART goals attached - we can help you do this
- I.e. they should have specific, measurable, realistic and time limited goals
- Be flexible, such that the pupils can work on them in their own time
- Last a maximum of 6 weeks so they can be completed before Christmas
- Help you achieve your mission
For example, a project could include:
- Helping you to explore a new market
- Producing literature either online or offline for your social project
- Getting an event off the ground
- Fundraising
- Planning a new project
- Launching a new service, project or campaign
- IT related
- Testing new concepts
- Mapping stakeholders needs
...the list goes on, these are merely examples of types of projects. Don't let them limit your ideas for how they might help and what could be an amazing project both for your social project and the pupils involved.
Benefits of being involved:
New ideas, skills and opportunities: Experience the benefits of having a team to support your vision without the need for expensive overheads. This could be a great opporunity for you to expand and develop your social project.
Save time: The team of sixth form pupils will be self-sufficient, working with the support of university students who will guide them through the project you give them. This will help to ensure that the project stays on track.
Support future social entrepeneurs: The pupils and students helping you are interested in making a social impact, after helping you we expect many of them will go on to set up their own social projects.
PR/Profile: This programme has been commissioned in response to a report ‘Delivering work related learning for an innovation nation’ published by NESTA which revealed how work-related learning opportunities for 14-19 years olds can strengthen key economic sectors and fuel a future workforce that is prepared for a rapidly changing economy. This is a new model at the fore-front of education policy, and the results and case study work from it will be used to guide policy recommendations.
Future recruitment/interns: You will be working with bright, can do young people who want to make an impact. This will be a great opportunity to get to know them and to explore future opportunities for recruitment or other project project.
Frequently Asked Questions:
1. Why do pupils want to help my idea? Increasingly young people want to make a difference, they are also hungry to find out more about the world of work. This will be an amazing opportunity for them to develop new skills and broaden their horizons. They will be being mentored by top university students through the process. To take part in this programme they had to apply online and were then selected.
2. Why do university students want to help my idea? The students taking part in this programme are volunteers for a global NGO called SIFE (Students In free Enterprise). They are challenged by this organisation to help other people and organisations reach their potential. Their role is to act as an intermediary between you and the sixth form pupils and to ensure the project stays on track through regular meetings with the sixth form students. At the end of the year, they will be asked by SIFE to present the impact they had on the pupils and how this helped the social enterprises.
3. How often will I meet with my team? This is very flexible and depends upon what project you set. We would envisage you would meet with the pupils and students initially at the school, and then most of the updates would be via the students.
4. What are the next steps for getting involved? Simply click on 'register now' and submit your ideas for how a team could help you (please aim to do this by 29th October).
There is an event on Friday 24th October which you will be invited along to. This will be a chance to network. Please note: even if you cannot make this event, this does not mean you can't participate in this programme. However we will be start to match social entrepreneurs with pupils from this date onwards...
5. Does it matter where I am based? The school pupils and university students are all based within London or within one hour's commute. Our target for this programme is therefore social entrepreneurs who can meet with the students and pupils without too much difficulty. If the support you need does not require too much in-person interaction it may be possible for a team to carry out a project for you even if you are not based near London. Furthermore, one of the principles of this programme is to introduce the young people to 'flexible working methods' and using 'technology' to overcome challenges such as distance.
5. How much does it cost? The students and sixth form pupils are volunteers, there will therefore be not charge for participating in this programme. We simply ask that you provide us with feedback on how the project went and that you ensure the pupils are well briefed as to what you expect from the project you give them. Please note: if you do incur any expenses these will not be covered (e.g. traveling to meet with your team).
6. If I submit an application will I definitely be paired with a team? There is a limit to the number of social entrepreneurs which can be supported so we will be picking the projects which are most likely to be beneficial both to you and to the team of pupils. Our advice is that you think about what projects would truly be beneficial for both and that you apply before the 24th October.
